Every advertising platform is an auction where whoever pays most gets seen most. That is not a controversial description; it is how the entire industry works. What is unusual is that the auction is normally hidden. You cannot see who outbid you, by how much, or what it would take to get in front of them.

Outranked.me is the same mechanic with the lid off. One public board. Your position is your verified spend. Everyone can see the number, everyone can see who is above them, and everyone can see exactly what it costs to pass them.

Why anybody would want that

Because opacity mostly benefits the platform. When you cannot see the auction, you cannot tell whether you are paying a fair price, and you cannot tell whether you are close to winning or nowhere near it. Making the price public is worse for us in the short term and better for everybody in the long term.

It also produces something an ad auction never does: a public, permanent, checkable record of who was willing to back themselves, and by how much.

What we refuse to do

• Move a listing without a verified payment. There is no rank field to edit.
• Create fake listings, fake bids, fake users or fake activity to look busier.
• Count bot traffic or a listing owner’s own clicks in their statistics.
• Publish an invented statistic, testimonial or review.
• Let a sponsored placement look like an earned position.
• Claim that paying us improves your Google ranking or gets you mentioned by an AI assistant. It does not, and we will not pretend otherwise to close a sale.

The honest limitation

A leaderboard is worth exactly as much as the attention it holds. Early on, that is not much. We would rather say that plainly than sell you an inflated number, which is why every figure on this site — including the ones that make us look small — is real and current.

Right now there are 0 listings competing, with $0 in total verified spend and 0 outbound clicks recorded. If those numbers are small, they are small.

How it stays fair

Rank is a pure function of verified spend, the entry timestamp and the listing identifier. It is recomputed on every read rather than stored, which means there is no rank to manipulate — not by us, not by a support request, not by a well-connected customer.

Everything else that affects what you see is documented on the transparency page: how trending is weighted, how clicks are counted, what refunds do, what “verified” means and where sponsorship appears.

Where it goes

A single global board rewards about twenty people. Category, country, industry and city boards each have their own #1, winnable for a fraction of the global price and far more relevant to somebody searching for what you actually do. That is the substance of the product: hundreds of meaningful positions instead of one unaffordable one.
